This site is truly a delight for a lawyer - a website all about yourself! What a concept! I could never have gotten anyone to publish the book of my life story, but through the magic of the Internet, I can create the living autobiography of Glenn K. Garnes. I really love the Web! And, the beauty of it is, that if you don't care to read all about me, it's okay, because I didn't pay a fortune to have all this stuff published, and distributed in somebody's books store.
So, feel free to sit back, and stay awhile. I'd love to tell you all about me. I live a very exciting life, and I love for others to experience the burden of hearing about it! I can talk about me forever, and if you stay long enough I will. But, seriously, I also like to share information, thoughts, dreams, ideas, almost everything except communicable diseases, so feel free to contact me if anything you see hear motivates you, pisses you off, or stimulates thought on your part. I'd love to hear from you!
A Once in a Lifetime Opportunity!
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting one of the most extraordinary individuals of our time. This gentleman grew up during the Depression, on the South Side of Chicago. After being rescued from deep involvement in gang violence by a benevolent Boy Scout leader, he eventually entered the military where he served in the Marines and eventually became a Warrant Officer there. He has received over 800 awards in the past 25 years for outstanding achievement and service to his country both home and abroad.
This gentleman has served as Director of the Department of Veteran’s Affairs under then Governor Ronald Reagan, Vice Chair of the U.S. Civil Service Commission, and Assistant Secretary of the Navy appointed by the President among other accomplishments. He also commissioned the USS California, and was the Founder of the Hope Foundation in 1962.
This list is just an overview of his accomplishments as his life story takes up an entire book, a book he wrote in 2001 called Beyond Defeat. The gentleman’s name is Dr. James “Johnny” Johnson, and the thing that makes his story even more extraordinary is the fact that his is an American of African origin, and grew up during one of the most unfavorable post-slavery periods in American history as it related to opportunities for Black citizens.
I cannot do Dr. Johnson’s story justice in this short blog entry but I would strongly encourage you to grab a copy of his book as quickly as you can. I sat and read it in one sitting because I simply could not put it down. It is incredible.
At the age of 75 years old, Dr. Johnson now operates an outreach center in the Anacostia section of Washington, D.C.,where he works with ex-offenders, assisting them to develop parenting skills and preparing them for return to the work force or their own businesses.
I am hoping to join Dr. Johnson in this project and if I am lucky he will take me under his wing as a willing and eager to learn protege.
Optimum Health Club
In an effort to continue my commitment to wellness, I have launched a new website to get others to join me on my wellness journey. It’s called OptimumHealthClub.com. The site features lots of great information and resources on health and wellness, and we also conduct free teleseminars featuring guest speakers on wellness related topics. I chose to break this out from the Choosefitness.com website because I wanted the focus to be on a collaborative wellness effort as opposed to just an informational site.
Membership is free so if you’re interested in joining us visit http://www.optimumhealthclub.com.
Bid Prince Open for Business!
My family and I have decided to launch an eBay business. We are set up to sell our own stuff, but also to host auctions for other people and business owners. If you want to check out the project visit http://www.bidprince.com.
My goals for this project are to teach my kids about entrepreneurship in an environment where they can be hands on, and also to help them fund their college educations through their own efforts. If things go well, their college educations will be a great way for them to supplement what they learn between now and then!
